Position Announcement: CAMP SIGNSHINE DRAMA SPECIALIST: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advocacy Resource Center (DHHARC) is a statewide advocacy, resource, telecommunications distribution, and direct service center offering advocacy, referral and community education services throughout Nevada.  DHHARC has two offices in Reno/Sparks and Las Vegas.  Camp SignShine is a week of fun, recreational and educational activities in a safe, comfortable, environment for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children, ages 7-19, and their siblings, and children of deaf adult

(CODA).  It will be held July 25-31, 2010.

PURPOSE: The Camp Drama Specialist is responsible for planning, organizing and directing drama program for a camp serving deaf, hard of hearing campers, their sibling and children of deaf adults (CODA).   Camp is a 24-hour a day, 7-day a week work environment. The Camp Drama Specialist is expected to also be available in case of an emergency when time off or half day off and is required to attend orientation on the 24th of July.

GENERAL INFORMATION:  Report to Camp Director

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES:

• Develop and implement the drama program including activity planning, and safety management.
• Develop drama activities that are innovative, creative and exciting.  Ensure that programs reflect the development level of each camper.
• Develop a group skit for Talent Show on Friday of that week.
• Develop a drama supply list for Camp Director approval.
• Train and supervise Counselors in Training (CITs) to assist at the Talent Show.
• Organize and oversee all camp clean-up procedures at the amphitheatre.
• Submit a written summary of current season including recommendations for next summer camp to the Camp Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• ·         Must be at least 25 years of age and be willing to work in a camp setting.
• ·         High School diploma or GED.
• ·         Must be experienced in directing, acting, stagecraft, and play production.
• ·         Physically able to accompany campers on all drama activities.
• ·         Be able to communicate with campers and provide instructions.
• ·         Good character, sense of humor, patience and dependability.
• ·         Must be proficient in American Sign Language and other communication modes used by Deaf persons, have demonstrated capability to successfully work with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community.
• ·         Considerable knowledge of developing and administering camp recreation program.

SALARY: This position will be compensated with housing, meals, and a travel stipend.
